Joao Carvalho

Joao Carvalho, 89, of Fall River, died Monday at home. He was the husband of Jovina (Martin) Carvalho.

Born in Sao Antonio alem Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antone and Georgina de Jesus (Barreira) Carvalho, he lived in this country for the past 45 years.

Before retiring in 1984, Mr. Carvalho was a laborer for many years at Liberal Construction, now Century.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Benilda Pavao andGabriela Ferreira, both of Fall River, Conceicao "Connie" Cordeiro of Westport, Fatima Carvalho of Florida and Elvina Cruz of Seekonk, MA; three sons, Antone Carvalho and Joao Carvalho, both of Fall River and Jose Carvalho of Florida; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Luis Carvalho and the brother of the late Connie Rego, Mariano Carvalho, Jose Carvalho, Joaquin Carvalho, Maria, Ana Carvalho and Angelina Carvalho.

His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass 9 a.m. in Good Shepherd Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 6 - 9 p.m.
