James A. Raposa, 81, of Westport, passed away Thursday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothy A. (Sardinta) Raposa.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Victor and Georgianna (Amaral) Raposa; he lived in Westport since 1966. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, painting, gardening and spending time with his family.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Raposa worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Fall River, retiring in 1975.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Carol A. Raposa-Farias (Husband Wayne J.) of Westport and Lisa M. Raposa of Westport; 2 sons, James Raposa, Jr., of Fall River and Kenneth V. Raposa of Westport; a grandson, Jordan James Farias; a great-grandson, James Thomas Farias, 2 step-granddaughters, Amanda and Jennifer Farias; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Evelyn Lopes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday 6 - 8 p.m. at the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St. Funeral Services and interment are private.
