James Monteiro

April 19, 1918 — June 7, 2012

James Monteiro, 94, of Fall River, died Thursday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rose (Wilkenson) Monteiro; they were married for 42 years.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Patricia (Almeida) Monteiro; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving for 4 years during World War II in Iran. He was a active member and past chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Woodrow L. Silvia Post 5392 in Tiverton.

Mr. Monteiro worked for many years for the City of Fall River Public Works Park Department. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church.

He is survived by a brother, Arthur A. Monteiro (Wife Evelyn) of Fall River; his longtime companion, Loretta Moniz who has been by his side for the past 22 years; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Monteiro, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton. Interment in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown. Calling hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St.
