James E. Moniz, 88, of Tiverton, RI, a retired sales manager, was called home on Tuesday, June 17th. He was the devoted and loving husband of Dorothea (Ferreira) Moniz.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel and Angelina (Casimira) Moniz; he lived in Tiverton for most of his life. He was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Charles Lawrence in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. J. Boehr Council 4753 in Tiverton.
James was employed as a sales manager for Metropolitan Life Ins. Co., retiring after 28 years. After his retirement, he became an avid fisherman spending many hours at the shore with his family.
Besides his wife of 63 years, he was the caring and loving father to four sons, James E. and his wife Kathleen of Westport, MA, Jeffrey J. and his wife Phyllis of Portsmouth, RI, Gregory A. and his wife Susete of Fall River and Gary J. and his wife Claudine of Dighton, MA; a brother, Dr. Albert Moniz of Fairfax, VA; a sister, Angelina Sullivan of Pawtucket, RI and their families. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elsie Moniz and Ruth Moniz.
His funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol. Interment in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m.
