James L. Jean, 83, also known as "Louie, J.J. and Jim" of Fall River, died Wednesday, at the Catholic Memorial Home surrounded by his family and friends on his 54th Wedding Anniversary at the exact time the couple was married. He was the husband of Barbara S. (Furtado) Jean.
Born in Fall River, MA; a son of the late Wilfred L. and Catherine (Ashworth) Jean; he was a lifelong resident of this city.
A veteran of the United States Army he served during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
A retired correctional officer he worked for the State of Massachusetts at MCI in Bridgewater for 25 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Douglas J. Jean (Wife Joanne) of Orlando, FL; a brother, Norman Jean of Tiverton, RI; two grandchildren, Conan Jean (Wife Kristina) and Meghan Jean, both of Orlando, FL; a god-daughter, Kathy Kellner of Portsmouth, RI; two nieces and a nephew. He was the brother of the late Wilfred Jean and Ernest Jean.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m.
