Irene (Silva) Melo

FALL RIVER… Irene (Silva) Melo, 91, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

She was the widow of the late Jose C. Melo.

Born in Porto Formoso, St. Miguel, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao da Luz Silva and Maria Jose Silva.

Prior to immigrating to the United States, Irene was employed by the Fábrica de Chá do Porto Formoso, in St. Michael. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for and taking care of her family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Mary Reis, Louise Rogers, Joe Melo, Leonore Gonsalves (spouse Alfred), John Melo, Connie Melo (spouse Nadine), Robert Melo, Irene Valois (spouse Roland), and Paul Melo (spouse Melissa); 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria Pimental.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 9:00 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St. Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, South Main St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 – 8 PM.
