Herculano B. Oliveira

Herculano B. Oliveira, 85, of Fall River passed away peacefully November 10, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was the widower of the late Ilda S. (Caveiro) Oliveira, to whom he had been married for 57 years.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Annibal Bernardo Oliveira and Maria Filomena Oliveira. Herculano moved to Fall River with his wife and five children in 1970.

Herculano worked for the majority of his career at Tillotson-Pearson, in Bristol, where he started as a boat builder, then became a nautical engineer, and eventually an applications engineer. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at Santo Christo Church and was a member of the Santo Christo Club. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed building and fixing things, going for walks outdoors, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Fatima Maria Oliveira. Herculano is survived by his children: Mario Oliveira, of Fall River, Jose Oliveira (Jennifer Davis Oliveira), of Swampscott, Philomena Remy, of Fall River, and Gorette Hetu (Douglas Hetu), of Fall River; his grandchildren: Ashley Remy, Isabella Hetu, Chanel Hetu, and Lavinia Oliveira; his brother David Oliveira, of Canada; several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by several siblings.

His funeral will be held Saturday, November 18, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. Fall River, MA 02721 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Parish, Columbia St. Fall River. Interment will be In Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM.
