Gerard A. Comeau, Sr.

Gerard A. "Jerry" Comeau, Sr., 92, of Kimwell Nursing Home, 495 New Boston Rd., Fall River, formerly of Hobson Ave., Tiverton, died Wednesday at the home. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Thorpe) Comeau.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late William and Maria Jeanne D'Arc (Magnan) Comeau; he lived in Fall River and Tiverton for most of his life. He was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and Thibodeau's Business School.

Mr. Comeau worked as an assembler for 10 years at Raytheon Co. in Portsmouth, retiring in 1990. He previously worked for many years as a multlith operator for the U.S. Government at the Naval Underwater System Command in Newport. He also worked part-time for many years at the former Masons Furniture of Fall River.

Mr. Comeau was a 3rd Degree member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. J. Boehr Council 4753 in Tiverton and was a former District Deputy for the Rhode Island State Council Knights of Columbus. Jerry was a 4th Degree member and Past Faithful Navigator of General Rose Crans Assembly in Newport and a 4th Degree member of Fr. Joseph B. Donahue Assembly in Tiverton. He was a past president of the Alegro Glee Club of Fall River and the first president of St. Anne's Home & School Association of Fall River. He received an award from People Incorporated for his support of the early intervention program. He enjoyed his trips with the Royal Travelers.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff on the first floor of Kimwell who became dad's second family during his stays with you. You truly were his second home.

He is survived by three sons, Gerard A. "Jerry" Comeau, Jr. (wife Denise) of Fall River; Donald E. Comeau (wife Mary Jane) of Tiverton; Stephen R. Comeau (wife Janice) of Dighton, MA; two daughters, Margaret "Peggy Anne" Fournier (husband Roger) of Tiverton and Judith D. "Judy" Foley (husband James) of E. Falmouth; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.. He was the brother of the late William, Armand, Eugene, Normand and Reginald Comeau, Beatrice Boyle and Florence Cardinal.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa Church. Committal prayers and interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Tiverton Fire Dept.
