Francisco S. Borges, 88, of Fall River, died Wednesday at home. He was the husband of Maria C. (Arruda) Borges.
Born in Sao Antonio alem Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Sousa Borges and Maria do Carmo da Ponte, he lived in this city for the past 34 years. He served in the Portuguese Army and enjoyed fishing. He was a wonderful and loving father.
Mr. Borges was a cook for many years at the former Sete Cidades Restaurant in Fall River.
Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by two daughters, Leonor Medeiros of Fall River and Fatima Reis and her husband John of Fall River; five sons, Antonio Borges and his wife Maria Fatima of Fall River, Jose Borges of Fall River, Joao Borges and his wife Maria of Somerset, Carlos Borges and his wife Madalena of N. Dartmouth and Pauly Borges of Fall River and his fiancée Lisa Marques of New Bedford; a sister, Maria do Carmo Metildes of Fall River; a brother, Antonio Borges of Ottawa, Canada; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Espirito Santo Church, Alden St. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
