Francis Canulla age 98 of Westport, MA. passed away on January 13, 2022. Born in Fall River, he was the son of Domenico and Domenica (Serafini) Canulla. Francis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Fall River Police Dept. motorcycle division before moving to Florida. Upon his return to MA, he was employed as a Sales Executive for Colonial Liquors where he retired. A man of abundant talents and interests, Francis then enjoyed his work as a gardener at the Rehoboth Country Club for many years. He was proficient in archery, and especially enjoyed bow hunting in Maine with his son.
Francis is survived by his wife Helen (Pennington) Canulla; two devoted children, Elizabeth Canulla (Beth) of Fall River and Marcus Canulla of Fall River; Daughter-in-law Theresa Canulla, and Joyce Faria, both of whom he thought of as daughters; beloved grandchildren, Megan Remmes and husband Robert; Laura Oliveira and husband Adam; and treasured great grandsons Robbie and Benjamin Remmes. Those he leaves behind will remember his strength, unwavering independence, appreciation of nature, and the rich library of life stories that he enjoyed sharing. He was a true “student of life” who loved his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass which will be held on Thursday January 20 at 11:00 from Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport. (Attendees are asked to wear masks.) Interment will be private.
