Fernando De Sousa, 80, of Blackstone St., Fall River, died Sunday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Maria I. (Botelho) De Sousa.
Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio and Clotilde (Tavares) De Sousa; he lived in this city for the past 29 years. He was a member of Santo Christo Church. He enjoyed walking and was a fan of wrestling.
Mr. De Sousa worked as a carpenter for several years at Pearson Yachts.
Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by six daughters, Laura De Sousa of New Bedford, Ana Botelho, Evangelina Rogers, Susana De Melo, Sonia De Sousa and Ana Cristina De Sousa, all of Fall River; a son, John De Sousa of Fall River; a sister, Laura De Sousa of St. Michael, Azores; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5 - 9 p.m.
