Fernando C. "Fernandine" Da Costa, 76, of 68 Oliver St., Fall River, died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Nancy C. (Alves) Da Costa.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Correia Da Costa and Maria da Conceicao (de Jesus) Moniz; he lived most of his life in Fall River. In his youth he played soccer for the Academica Club, Tobacaria Acoreana. He also played for Micaelense in Portugal.
He was a member of Santo Christo Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Candida (Da Costa) Elizardo (husband Carlos M.) of Fall River, Holly (Da Costa)Sineiro (Husband Daniel J.) of Fall River and Kimberly Amaro (partner Robin) of CT; a sister; a brother; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Aires "Archie" Da Costa and Cecilia Da Costa and the brother of the late Durval C. Da Costa.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5-9 p.m.
