Evelyn Souza

Evelyn Souza, 91, of Tiverton, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Dawn Hill Home for Rehab and Healthcare, in Bristol, RI.

    She was the widow of the late Dassey B. Souza.

    Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Souza and Sarah (Lima) Souza.

    Evelyn was devoted to raising her children and later worked at several retail stores, including Edgar's Department Store, where she was a gift wrapper for many years. A deeply religious woman, she was a member of Swansea First Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday School. Evelyn volunteered for several years at the Saturday Soup Kitchen at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Fall River. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, puzzles, camping, traveling, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family.

    She is survived by her children Deborah Smith, of Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon Souza, of North Providence, RI, Joanne Heaney (James), of Somerset, Beverly Viera Peters (Frankie), of Tiverton, RI, and Joseph Souza, of Billerica; her siblings Joseph Souza and Irene Richard; her grandchildren Jordan Smith, Ashley Mihelic, Jessica Heaney, Jay Heaney, Heather Marchand, and Cheyenne Viera; her great grandchildren Jace Spaulding, Lena Smith, Noah Smith, Paxton Mihelic, and Nora Heaney; several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robin Souza and Michael Souza, the grandmother of the late Gunnar Peters, and mother-in-law of the late Tony “Guy” Viera.

    Her funeral will be held Friday, August 2nd, 2024, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St., followed by funeral prayers at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton. Calling hours will be held Thursday night from 5 - 8 PM.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
