Evangelina (Furtado) Tavares, 80, of Fall River, died Friday at the Catholic Memorial Home. She was the wife of the late Manuel Tavares.
Born in Salga, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Jordao Furtado and Maria de Assuncao Correia; she resided in Fall River for the past 42 years.
Mrs. Tavares worked as a folder in the local garment industry for several years.
She was a member of the Santo Christo Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Grace Aguiar and Susan Tavares, both of Fall River; two sons, Joseph Tavares of Cranston, RI and Paul Tavares of Fall River; a sister, Sophia Melo of Canada; a brother, Leonildo Furtado of France; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by 8 siblings and was the grandmother of the late Veni Aguiar.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 4 - 8 p.m.
