Edward V. Pereira, 88, of Fall River, died Saturday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Adeline (Cordeiro) Pereira.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel V. and Maria C. Pereira; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River and a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Pereira was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WW II. He was a former drummer for the Silver Moon Orchestra.
Mr. Pereira retired from Truesdale Clinic after 38 years of employment as a maintenance man. After retiring, he worked part-time at St. Anne's Medical Center until the age of 83.
Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by two daughters, Donna Marie Slater of Swansea and Lori Ann Baptista (Husband James) of Warren, RI; a son, David V. Pereira (Wife Marianne) of Assonet, MA; three sisters, Olivia Dias and Leatrice Souza, both of Somerset, MA and Lorraine Farias of Swansea; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 6 - 9 p.m.
