Edward M. Monte

Edward M. Monte, 81, of Fall River, a retired construction laborer, died Sunday at Kimwell Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of Maria Virginia (Costa) Monte.
Born in Fenais da Ajuda, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel and Maria Lourdes (Mendes-Andrade) Do Monte; he lived in Fall River since 1958 and was a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Monte worked out of the Laborers Union, Local 271. He was a volunteer for the Santo Christo Parish Feast and the Great Feast of the Holy Ghost at Kennedy Park. He loved to paint and enjoyed dancing.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Monte Carreiro (husband Tommy R.) of Fall River; a sister, Serafica Pedro of Fall River; three brothers, Jose Monte and Ludgero Do Monte, both of Fall River and Luis Do Monte of Wareham, MA; two grandchildren; Tyler R. Carreiro and Trevor G. Carreiro; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eugene Monte, brother of the late Manuel Do Monte and Mariano Monte; and brother-in-law of the late Madalena Do Monte and Aires Pedro.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5-8 p.m.
