Edward J. Mello

Edward J. Mello, 77, of Fall River, passed away August 23, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family.

    He was the loving husband of Maria “Mary” (Medeiros) Mello, to whom he had been married for 53 years.

    Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Joseph Mello and Alexandria (Miranda) Mello.

    Edward was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, earning the Purple Heart and several other commendations during his service. Before his retirement, he worked for the Massachusetts Highway Department and also at the former Duro Finishing for 18 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5392, in Tiverton, and member of the National Rifle Association. In his free time, he enjoyed going on road trips, playing bingo, bowling, fishing, camping, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

    Along with his wife, survivors include his daughters Elizabeth A. Mello Marvel, her husband David, and Lori A. Mello, her partner Brian Furtado; his grandchildren Brianna, Michael, and Kevin; his great grandchildren Lilah and Cayden; his godchildren Jessica Rajani, Jason Medeiros, and Kira Lima; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings John Mello and Natalie Bolton.

    The family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and care for Edward.

    His funeral will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 5 – 8 PM.
