Donna M (Carvalho) Burns

FALL RIVER… Donna M. (Carvalho) Burns, 78, of Fall River passed away February 14, 2021 at her home.

She was the companion of Ronald J. Skramstad of Fall River and was the widow of the late Leo F. Burns, Jr.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Casmiro) Carvalho. She had lived most of her life in Fall River.

Mrs. Burns was a communicant of The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, Fall River. She had worked for many years in the garment industry as a Union Steward and Floor Lady for the former Fall River Manufacturing and was the former owner of the former Columbia Country Store. Prior to retiring in 2007, she was employed as a Chef at McGovern’s Restaurant.

Along with her companion, survivors include her daughter: Catherine Elizabeth Burns of Fall River; her sisters: Mary S. Oliveira of Somerset, Eduarda Aguiar of Somerset, Angie Freitas of Fall River, Fern Carvalho of Fall River and Terry Augusto of Fall River; her brothers: Antone Carvalho of Swansea, Joseph Carvalho of Westport and Hank Carvalho of Westport; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Carvalho.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 8 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St. Fall River, MA 02721 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at St. Mary's Cathedral, Second Street, Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 – 6 PM.
