Daniel Rua, Sr.

Daniel Rua, Sr., 85, of Middle St., Fall River, died Monday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary "Red" (Andrade) Rua.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel Soares Rua and Maria Silva Bretanho; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Rua worked as a fireman for many years at the former Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) in Dartmouth, now UMASS Dartmouth.

He is survived by two grandchildren; Jody M. Almeida (husband John E.) of Kissimmee, FL and Daniel Rua, III of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Evelyn Moniz (husband Manuel) of Fall River and Nora Gonzales (husband Manuel) of Somerset, MA; a brother, John Rua (wife Barbara) of Somerset, MA; five great-grandchildren, Kerstin J. Wallinger, John E. Almeida, Jr., Michael D. Rua-Harding, Jarrod A. Jansen and Danielle Gamson; a daughter-in-law, Diane Rua; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Daniel Rua, Jr., the brother of the late Rita Santos and the grandfather-in-law of the late Heather Rua.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Monday at 11 a.m. in the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
