FALL RIVER… Emerenciana M. (Melo) Cordeiro, 88, of Highland Ave., formerly of Wheeler Street, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014.
She was the widow of Manuel S. Cordeiro.
She was born in Fenais da Ajuda, St. Michael Azores a daughter of the late Jacinto and Amelia (de Andrade) de Melo Afonso and had lived in Fall River since 1970.
She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Angel Church, now Good Shepard Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and was very active with the church.
She was employed with various mills in the city as a Floor Worker until retiring in 1988 after 18 years.
Mrs. Cordeiro was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. and enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking. Her Malassadas and Massa were the best.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Ilda Medeiros of Acushnet and Martina Pacheco and her husband Emanuel of Fall River, 6 grandchildren: Paula Vieira, Nuno Medeiros, Carla Reynolds, Aaron Pacheco, Alexandria Pacheco, and Katherine Pacheco, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Maria Eduarda Melo Soares, mother-in-law of the late Jose Medeiros, sister of the late Maria Concecao Andrade.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Wednesday at 9 A.M. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at Good Shepard Parish, South Main Street, Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be Tuesday 5 - 8 P.M.
