Clarinda Furtado

Clarinda (Cavaco) Furtado, 105, of Fall River, passed away Thursday, March 6th, 2025, at Somerset Ridge Center.

    She was the widow of the late Diniz S. Furtado.

    Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Joseph S. Cavaco and Maria da Gloria (Miranda) Cavaco.

    Clarinda was a dedicated sewing machine operator in the local garment industry for many years before her retirement. She spent the majority of her adult life in the Azores, where she became deeply connected to her community and culture. Later in life, she moved back to Fall River, MA, where she continued to live surrounded by family and friends. Clarinda was also a devoted Catholic, where she found strength and solace in her faith.

    Clarinda is survived by her siblings Maria D. Medeiros and David S. Cavaco; her nieces and nephews Carolyn Paskowski, John Cavaco, Joan Medeiros, Jack Medeiros, Maryann Larangera, and Carol Sorrentino. She was predeceased by her siblings Sister Isabel Cavaco, FMM, Isuara Pereira, and Arthur Cavaco, her niece Julia Kingston, and her nephew David Cavaco.

    A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River.

    Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, Rockland St., Fall River. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clarinda’s name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
