Carlos V. Alves, 80, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River, died Monday after a brief illness, surrounded by his beloved family. He was the husband of 51 years to Mary T. (Peixoto) Alves.

Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores; a son of the late Manuel and Conceicao (Botelho) Alves, he resided in Somerset for the past 16 years.

Mr. Alves worked as a laborer for Cardi Construction out of Warwick, RI for 24 years. He was a member of the Construction and General Laborers Local Union 271.

He was a communicant of St. Michael Church.

He was a member of the Banda Senhora Conceicao Mosteirense for 10 years. In his youth he played with the Banda Fundacao Brasileira Mosteiros in the Azores.

He was an avid yard worker and enjoyed trips to the Azores, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Besides his wife he is survived by 2 daughter, Lydia Rocha and Debra Faria (Husband Mark) both of Fall River, MA; 3 sons, Michael Alves (Wife Jacqui), Nelson Alves and Victor Alves all of Somerset, MA; 3 sisters, Aurelia Soares of Taunton and Laura Medeiros and Conceicao Camara both of the Azores; a brother, Adelberto Alves of Winnipeg, Canada; 7 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4 - 8 p.m.
