Barbara A. (Rodrigues) Souza

Barbara Ann Souza, 86, of Fall River, MA, passed away on October 12th after a brief illness.

Barbara was born on March 3, 1936 to the late Bento and Mary (Pavao) Rodrigues in Fall River, MA. After high school, she went on to graduate from the Kinyon-Campbell Business School. She spent many years working at the Fall River Herald News and various local furniture stores.

Barbara lived a full and vibrant life with friends and her large extended family. She adored her many nieces and nephews including her close relationship with her nieces, Madlyn (Telles) Cordeiro, MaryLou (Telles) Miranda, Carlyn (Telles) Vale. As a great-great aunt, a special place in her heart was held for Meredith, Lia, Sydney and Ryan. Barbara was also the caring Godmother to Eric Dupont, Ryan McDonald and Sherri Vale-Turner.

Barbara had many interests including her love for the theater which led her to New York City many times to see her favorite shows on Broadway. She loved opera, jazz and traveling with her family all over New England as well as her casino bus trips with friends. Barbara was also a fantastic seamstress who was always willing to take on a project. In her later years she was dedicated to the Foster Grandparent Program through CFC and the Fall River Public Schools.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Frances Lilliston of Fall River, MA. She is predeceased by her siblings: Alice (Edward) Telles, Dorothy Dias, Bento Rodrigues, James Rodrigues, Robert (Patricia) Rodrigues, Margaret (John) Silvia and George Rodrigues.

A visitation will be held Monday, October 17, from 8:00 - 9:30 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of St. Mary the Assumption, Second St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
