FALL RIVER… Alzira (Carreiro-Vieira) Salsinha, 83, of Fall River, passed away January 19, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River.
She was the widow of the late Jose M. Salsinha.
Alzira was born in Agua Retorta, Sao Miguel, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel Inocencio Vieira and Maria Da Conceicao Carreiro.
Mrs. Salsinha worked for over 20 years as a machine operator at the former Beacon Garment, in Fall River. She was a member of Santo Christo Church and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a well known personality as she always participated on the radio talk show, Voz do Emigrante. After her retirement, She realized her dream of singing and recorded a few CDs written with her own lyrics in Portuguese. She was also very good with poetry and had her own book of poems published about her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Paulson (husband Lyle) of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire, and Ana Thibault (husband Daniel) of Somerset; a son, Paul Salsinha of Fall River; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandchild and her late siblings: Margarida Aguiar, Maria Vieira Cabral, Jose Vieira, and Laudalino Vieira.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, February 1, at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 - 8 p.m.
