Alfred "Fred" Fernandes

Alfred "Fred" Fernandes, 76, of Stafford Rd., Tiverton, died Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Theresa C. (Medeiros) Fernandes.



Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Louis and Sarah (Aguiar) Fernandes; he lived most of his life in Tiverton and Little Compton. He was a member of St. Theresa Parish. Mr. Fernandes was the owner and operator of M & G Sanitation for over 30 years. He previously worked at the former Ann Dale Cookie Co. of Fall River. A talented musician, Mr. Fernandes was a member of Freddy and the Nobles. He excelled as an athlete; was passionate about sports and loved animals.



Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sheryl De Mello (husband David) of Dartmouth, MA; two sons, Marc E. Fernandes (husband Michael) of Providence and Martin L. Fernandes (husband Robert) of Providence; a sister, Alice Hayden of Little Compton, RI; two brothers, Gilbert Fernandes of Westport, MA and David Fernandes of Tiverton; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Bill and Lezlie Souza of Tiverton who he thought of as a son and daughter. He was the brother of the late Louis Fernandes, Jr.

At the request of his family calling hours and funeral have been canceled. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forever Paws, 300 Lynwood St., Fall River, MA 02721.
