Albina S. "Al" Ferreira, 90, of Tiverton, a retired sewing machine operator, died Saturday at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis J. Ferreira, Jr.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Antonina (Silva) Simas, she lived in Tiverton since 1974 and was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. Mrs. Ferreira retired from the former Center Garment after 38 years of employment as a sewing machine operator, having previously been employed by the former Firestone Rubber & Latex Company. She was a member of the former International Ladies Garment Workers Union, now U.N.I.T.E. She enjoyed singing and music. She was a chorus member/director of the Whippoorwills, singing at many nursing homes.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Jerrolyn A. Quinn and devoted son-in-law, John F. "Jack" Quinn of Fall River; 5 grandchildren, Karen Quinn-Costa, FNP, Kathleen(Quinn) McNeil, Helen F. Trymbulak, M.D., Kristen(Quinn)Moehle and Robert S. Ferreira; 10 great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jonathon, Meggin, Matthew, Ryan, Lauren, David, Nathan, Rachael and Quinn; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert L. Ferreira and the sister of the late Leo "Lee" Simas, Angelina "Angie" Mello, Peggy Felicia, Adelino Manuel Simas and Andre "Henry" Simoes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Lake Rd.,Tiverton. Burial will be private. At the request of the family, calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to B.M.C. Durfee High School Scholarships, Attn: Robert L. Ferreira Scholarship, 360 Elsbree St., Fall River, MA 02720. Arrangements are by the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St.
